How To Install CM9 XXLP6 On Your SGS2

XXLP6 is currently the latest CM9 test build for the SGS2. You can download it with your computer or via ROM Manager for installation. I've prepared the following installation guides for both scenarios :)

If you want to read my review of CM9 XXLP6 before installation, read this.

Here are a few reminders.
  • Your phone needs to be rooted. The best option would be to use CF Root by Chainfire to root it.
  • If you plan to use ROM Manager and DIDN'T use CF Root on your phone, flash the latest recovery image via the application. It's a prerequisite for downloading ROMs with the same app. You can use the app for downloading/backing up/restoring ROMs and all other functions that come with it.
  • If you have CF Root and still would want to use ROM Manager, never use the app for installing, backing up and restoring ROMs. I've been there and it's confusing if you have CF Root because it will appear like you have two recovery images with separate backups and restore files. Instead, use ROM Manager to manage backups (renaming and checking) and for downloading custom ROMs only. You will have to manually go to Clockworkmod recovery to do backups, restores, and to install ROMs.
CM9 Installation Guide For Non-ROM Manager Users
  1. Download the latest CM9 XXLP6 (02012012) and gapps v11 zip to your computer.
  2. After download, transfer both .zip files to /sdcard.
  3. Go to recovery mode and do steps 4 to 10.
  4. Wipe data/factory reset (Note: Skip this if you have a previous build of CM9 installed)
  5. Wipe cache partition
  6. Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache

  10. After install select reboot system now. Your SGS2 is now on CM9 XXLP6!
Not so fast. To install Google Apps on your phone, proceed with the next steps.
  1. A few minutes after rebooting to CM9, long press the power button. Select Reboot > Recovery
  2. After going to recovery mode, select install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > gappsv11.zip. Confirm install.
  3. After install, select reboot system now. Your CM9 is now packed with Google Apps :)
